	Legislation Congressman Cliff Stearns Working for Florida's Sixth District since 1989 Budget Because I believe that taxpayers, not the government, make better decisions with their own money, I am committed to low taxes, smaller government, and eliminating the deficit. The current budget of the President and the leadership in Congress will doubled the national debt in five years and triple it in 10 years. In addtion, it calls for large tax increases and a massive expansion in government programs. I beleive that we need to hold down the grwoth in federal spending and limit the expansion of government programs. In that way, we can reduce our borrowing and return sooner to a balanced budget. I was one of only 39 House members in 2009 recognized by the National Taxpayers' Union with an "A" rating on fiscal responsibility.
