WASHINGTON, SEPT. 5, 2003 - "Our top priority is to enhance our nation's economic well being and national security, and enacting a comprehensive energy policy will serve both," said Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-Ocala). "I am pleased to participate in the House and Senate Conference Committee on developing a final energy policy bill and I am committed to producing a measure that promotes energy development, conservation, renewable sources, new technologies, and that improves the energy infrastructure to avoid future blackouts."
As the House and Senate each have passed their own version of energy legislation, the conferees will develop a final bill for House and Senate consideration. Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert designated Stearns, a senior member of the Energy & Commerce Committee, as one of the House members to the Conference Committee. "I look forward to working with my House and Senate colleagues in developing a balanced and responsible national energy plan to meet the current and future needs of the American people," added Stearns.
