WASHINGTON, OCT. 28, 2003 - "According to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), more than $118 million in tax refunds and child tax credit payments owed to thousands of taxpayers went undelivered," said Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-Ocala). "I am certain that many of these taxpayers live in North Central Florida and I want to ensure that they receive the money they deserve. For those who did not receive the child tax credit payments, they need to act before December 5, 2003, or they will have to file for that amount as a credit on their 2003 tax return."
The IRS has 116,000 undelivered child tax credit checks and over 92,000 tax refund checks returned as undeliverable, most due to bad addresses. The average check is worth $722.
Added Stearns, "The IRS has a web site where the public can check the status of their refunds and child tax credit payments. The address is www.IRS.gov. To check the status, you will need your Social Security number or Individual Taxpayer ID Number, your filing status (Single, Married Filing Joint Return, etc.), and the amount you are due."
