WASHINGTON, JAN. 29, 2008 - "I am honored to receive the 'True Blue' Award for voting to protect the American family, and I am especially pleased to be recognized for a perfect 100-percent record on family issues," said Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-Sixth). "The family is the central building block of our society and it must be preserved."
Today, Stearns received the "True Blue" Award, a recognition presented by the legislative arms of the Family Research Council and Focus on the Family. According to Thomas McClusky, representing the Family Research Council, and Tom Minnery, representing Focus on the Family, "This scorecard shows how your elected officials voted on some of the critical issues involving the family. Only through your help as informed and active constituents, working with us in contacting your Members of Congress on pro-family issues, can we defend traditional pro-family policies in Washington."
Some of the votes used for the scorecard are preventing faith-based discrimination in the Head Start Program, promoting abstinence and faithfulness to prevent the spread of HIV, and upholding the ban on federal funding to international organizations that perform abortions.
