Stupak Statement on Iraq Study Group
The following statement regarding the release of the Iraq Study Group’s findings may be attributed to Congressman Bart Stupak (D-MI):
“For more than a year, I have been calling on the Administration to develop an accountability plan for Iraq with a timetable and measurable goals for turning responsibility for Iraq’s security over to Iraqis.
“The Iraq Study Group’s findings make clear that we cannot afford continued delay or any more of the President’s failed, stay-the-course policy. The American people have rejected the President’s Iraq policy and now the Iraq Study Group has said that the situation in Iraq is ‘grave and deteriorating.’
“Our troops have performed admirably and sacrificed so much. They deserve a plan from the President and Congress that will end this war as quickly as possible. The President needs to listen to the Iraq Study Group, the U.S. Congress and, most of all, the American people by adopting a policy that will move us towards responsible redeployment out of Iraq.”
