
Susan hosts a "Neighborhood Day" for each community in the district each year. Every Neighborhood Day includes a town hall style group discussion as well as one-on-one assistance for those needing help with government agencies.

Lemon Grove/La Presa Neighborhood Day
La Presa Middle School – August 29, 2009
Over 1,200 San Diegans attended Susan’s Neighborhood Day on health insurance reform. Susan welcomed questions from a vocal crowd and outlined the health care solutions offered by the House bills.
Other healthcare outreach has included:
- Telephone Town Halls, calling over 80,000 constituents in the 53rd District
- Guest speaker for the Hillcrest Town Council, the San Diego Organizing Project, and the Catfish Club
- Health Care for America Now (HCAN) Community Health Care Forum
- Beach Communities Neighborhood Day
- Roundtables with constituents, representatives from non-profit advocacy organizations, hospital administrators, staff from pharmaceutical and bio-tech companies, representatives from San Diego’s community clinics, and staff from national and local health plans.

A packed room learned about job training and employment opportunities in San Diego’s growing green jobs sector from Susan and the San Diego Workforce Partnership.
Housing Clinic
City Heights Center – August 29, 2009
Distressed homeowners of San Diego found help at the housing workshop Susan hosted, which provided access to HUD approved housing counselors, Housing Opportunities Collaborative’s Home Clinic attorneys, real estate and mortgage industry professionals, housing counseling agencies, fair housing agencies, and other public agencies.
Grants Workshop
NTC Promenade Command Center – August 26, 2009
Susan and a panel of experts broke down the basics of finding and applying for federal and private grants and offered ideas of how to access funds from the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act.
Water Workshop
University of San Diego Joan Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice – August 25, 2009
Since San Diego is particularly affected by water shortages, Susan and representatives from local San Diego water authorities discussed how to conserve water for outdoor use.
Credit and Identity Theft Workshop
Bayside Community Center – August 24, 2009
Susan and local experts explained the recent federal reform of the credit card industry, how to build a better credit report, and offered information on how to avoid, report and recover from identity theft.
