Rep. Susan Davis Votes to Block Pay Increase for House Members
House votes against $3,700 increase
WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Susan Davis (D-San Diego) voted to block a pay increase for members of the House of Representatives. The vote amended the Omnibus Appropriations bill and suspended an automatic cost-of-living adjustment given to members of the House every year.
“In these times of economic uncertainty, it is not appropriate for Congress to be getting a pay increase,” Davis said. “Everyday San Diegans are struggling financially. Congress needs to focus on the needs of the American people and put our nation’s economy on the road to recovery.”
It is estimated that the increase would have been roughly $3,700. The House blocked it on a vote of 398-24.
Since coming to Congress, Davis has consistently opposed these congressional pay increases.
