Rep. Susan Davis Supports Budget that Promotes Economic Growth

House budget contains President Obama’s priorities

WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Susan Davis (D-San Diego) voted for a budget to get the nation’s economy working again.  The budget (H. Con. Res. 85) that the House of Representatives passed today represents the hard choices that needed to be made and invests in the areas that will spur growth and lead to prosperity for decades to come.

“This budget builds on the long-term investments for our economic recovery,” Davis said.  “The way to cut the deficit is to grow our economy and create jobs.  The budget we passed today does just that by creating jobs, reforming health care, moving toward energy independence, and investing in education.”

The House-passed budget will cut the deficit in half by 2013.  It provides a $1.5 trillion tax cut for middle class families.  It will create jobs and grow our economy with targeted investments and reforms in health care, clean energy and education while reducing non-defense discretionary spending to its lowest level in nearly half a century.

When President Obama came into office he inherited a record deficit from the previous Administration, which had squandered a $5.6 trillion surplus.  The national debt is double what it was in 2001, wages are flat and unemployment is skyrocketing.  The House-passed economic plan takes the necessary steps to dig our economy out of the hole, cut the deficit, and stimulate broad growth for the good of all Americans.

The House approved the budget resolution on a vote of 233-196.
