Rep. Susan Davis Honored for her Work on Behalf of Military Families

Davis gets MOAA Congressional Leadership Award

WASHINGTON – U.S. Rep. Susan Davis (D-San Diego), a member of the House Armed Services Committee, Chairwoman of the Subcommittee on Military Personnel, and co-founder and co-chair of the Congressional Navy/Marine Corps Caucus, was presented with the Colonel Arthur T. Marix Congressional Leadership Award on Tuesday by the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA).

The organization recognized Davis for her leadership in sponsoring a range of initiatives to improve the quality of life for the military families, increasing pay, improved health care programs and fairer compensation for military survivors.

“Military families face many of the challenges all families deal with, such as daycare, healthcare and access to education,” said Davis.  “But we know that military families face a number of challenges unique to life in the military.  No challenge is greater than the multiple deployments our military families endure.  We have worked to take steps to lessen the strain on our service members and their families.  MOAA’s strong advocacy for current and former service members and their families is one reason our force remains so strong and why our families continue to sign up for service year after year.”

MOAA is the nation’s largest veteran’s organization that represents active duty and retired military officers and their families. The Colonel Arthur T. Marix Congressional Leadership Award is named after U.S. Marine Corps Colonel Marix who founded MOAA in 1929 and served as its first President.
