Rep. Susan Davis Named ‘Humane Champion’ for her Leadership in Protecting Animals

Washington – In recognition for her leadership on animal protection issues and for receiving a perfect score on the 2010 Humane Scorecard, Congresswoman Susan Davis (D-San Diego) was named a Humane Champion.  It is the highest award given by the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) and the Humane Society Legislative Fund (HSLF).

The HSUS and HSLF singled out Davis’s bill that would designate National Link Awareness Month in an effort to raise awareness about the link between domestic violence and cruelty to animals.

“I appreciate this recognition by the Humane Society of the United States and the Humane Society Legislative Fund,” said Davis.  “I’m proud to play a role in the essential work that the Humane Society of the United States and the Humane Society Legislative Fund do to protect animals.”

President and CEO of The HSUS, Wayne Pacelle, said, “Representative Davis is such an outstanding champion for animal protection in Congress, leading the way on important legislation and always taking account of the impacts on animals. We are so fortunate to have her giving voice to these concerns and helping to make this a more humane world.”

For 2010, the legislative scorecard included votes on service dogs for veterans, wild horses and cosponsoring legislation on puppy mills, horse slaughter, and chimpanzees in research.
