Congresswoman Susan Davis Supports STOCK Act
WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Susan Davis (D-San Diego) voted for the STOCK Act, which passed the House of Representatives on a vote of 417-2. The bill prohibits Congress, their staff, and the executive and judicial branches from using inside information on stock trades.
Davis was disappointed that the House Majority stripped out a requirement that those who peddle political intelligence for profit must register and report as lobbyists. She vows to work to have the provisions restored.
“We are here to serve the public, not enrich ourselves,” said Davis, who cosponsored the House version of the STOCK Act. “I wanted the stronger bill that was passed by the Senate. But I felt it was important to move forward to allow us to work in conference with the Senate to strengthen this bill before it gets to the President's desk.”
The House and Senate will need to work out the discrepancies in the bill before sending it to President Obama.
