WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Susan Davis moved to require the Speaker of the House to bring up legislation to extend the middle class tax cuts.  Davis joined 177 of her colleagues in signing a petition to force a vote on middle class tax cuts, which are expected to expire at the end of 2012.
 
“We could take a big step back from the ‘fiscal cliff’ if the House were to pass this bill,” said Davis. “Once enacted, Congress would be able to focus on spending side and ease the brunt of sequestration.  There is no doubt we need to get our debt problem situated, but it needs to be done in a balanced way that doesn’t hurt our economy.”
 
The ‘fiscal cliff’ includes the expiration of the Bush tax cuts and $1.5 trillion in spending cuts, known as sequestration, that are required under the Budge Control Act enacted in the summer of 2011.
 
The bill House members are pushing for a vote on is identical to legislation passed by the Senate in July.
