Rep. Susan Davis Pushes to Raise Awareness on Organ Donation
WASHINGTON - Congresswoman Susan Davis (D-San Diego) joined the nationwide effort to raise awareness for organ donation by encouraging people to register as donors. On average, about 18 people die in the U.S. every day waiting for a lifesaving organ, three of those people are in California.
“Everyday we hear the heart-wrenching stories of patients and their families hoping for an organ donation,” said Davis. “One of the best ways to help these families by making sure we are registered organ donors so that when we die, we give the gift of life to people who are waiting for a lifesaving organ transplant.”
California represents about 18 percent of the national transplant waiting list with nearly 22,000 patients needing one or more organs to survive, 363 of those individuals are age 17 or younger.
Congresswoman Davis encourages everyone to sign up to be organ donors and to encourage their friends and family to sign up as well. In California, it’s as easy as going to www.donateLIFEcalifornia.org to get more information and to register immediately. For people not in California, go to www.donatelife.net to find the organ donor registry in their state.
