Congressional Page Selection
I would like to thank everyone who responded to the Congressional Page Position announcement for Spring 2010. My office received many applications for the one open position and it was a very difficult decision. I was so impressed with the range of talented and qualified students who applied from our District, and each application had its own strengths. I am excited as our next generation of San Diegans continues to grow and play an active role in our communities!
I am thrilled to announce that Ms. Yaritza Hernandez of Normal Heights will be representing the 53rd District as a Congressional Page this spring! As an active high school junior at Serra High, Yaritza says she will “contribute determination and a whole different perspective to the page community.” I know she will make the most of her experience in Washington, D.C. and Congress.
Pages serve as support staff for Members of Congress. Page duties consist primarily of assisting Members on the floor of the House of Representatives and disseminating legislative material around the Capitol complex. Serving as a Page is an exciting, enriching experience and a great way to learn firsthand about the legislative process and how Congress works.
I do not know when I will next be given the opportunity to sponsor a page but I can assure you I will post any future application information here and will announce it in my e-newsletter.
