The Assault Weapons Ban of 1994 prohibited the manufacture, sale and possession of certain semi-automatic assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition magazines that hold more than ten rounds. 

Neither Congress nor the President acted to renew the ban before it expired on September 13, 2004.
