July 12, 2002 LANE COLLEGE TO GET ADDITIONAL TRIO GRANTLane College will receive a grant under the federal Talent Search program, U.S. Rep. John Tanner announced. The grant is available through the United States Department of Education's TRIO program in the amount of $289,450.00. Further funding is anticipated for future years. "The students, faculty, and staff at Lane College have always made us proud through their work in the TRIO program," Tanner said. "The Talent Search program is truly an investment in the future, not only for the young people but for our society. Education is the key to unlock the chains of dependence." The Talent Search program identifies and assists individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds who have potential to succeed in higher education. The program provides academic, career, and financial counseling to its participants. The goal of Talent Search is to increase the number of youth from disadvantaged backgrounds who complete high school and enroll in the postsecondary education institution of their choice. Tanner represents Tennessee's 8th Congressional district. He is a member of the House Ways and Means Committee. # # #
