March 21, 2006 HOUSE RESOLUTION HONORS PATRIOT GUARD RIDERS Rep. Tanner: Bike Group Upholds Dignity of Troops’ Sacrifice WASHINGTON -- Tens of thousands of Americans have voluntarily joined the Patriot Guard Riders, who preserve the memory of America’s fallen troops by shielding their families from protestors who want to disrupt their funerals. Congressman John Tanner and 20 of his House colleagues introduced a resolution March 16 honoring the Patriot Guard Riders for the service they provide to the country. “I find it deeply disturbing that some people want to use such a solemn and dignified occasion to further hurt those families who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the name of our country,” Rep. Tanner said. “We are grateful to the men and women who have come together to shield mourning families from added anguish.” The resolution, H.Res.731, expresses appreciation to the Patriot Guard Riders, who, “standing tall in the face of ugliness, help to preserve the memory and dignity of the Nation’s fallen heroes.” Tanner represents Tennessee’s 8th Congressional district, which includes part of Fort Campbell. He served in the Navy and retired from the Tennessee Army National Guard in 2000 at the rank of Colonel. # # # Contact: Randy Ford, 202.225.4714
