February 7, 2007 U.S. HOUSE PASSES METH CLEAN-UP BILL WASHINGTON -- Congressman John Tanner helped pass a bill in the House of Representatives to assist local law enforcement officials in finding, shutting down and cleaning up old methamphetamine labs. “Meth is tearing apart our rural communities,” Tanner said after the House overwhelmingly passed The Methamphetamine Remediation Research Act of 2007. “Our state and local officials are doing great work to fight meth. This legislation will help them better seek out and deep-clean meth lab sites, where dangerous chemicals can linger undetected for years and cause great harm for nearby families or future residents of the lab sites.” The legislation, which Tanner has also supported in previous years, was written by Tennessee Congressman Bart Gordon, chair of the House Science and Technology Committee. Tanner represents Tennessee’s 8th district in west and middle Tennessee. # # # Contact: Randy Ford, 202.225.4714
