REP. TANNER SAYS JULY 4TH IS TIME FOR CELEBRATION, REMEMBRANCE, REFLECTION

House Boosts Veterans Care

WASHINGTON – Congressman John Tanner said he hopes Tennessee families will use the Independence Day holiday to celebrate our country’s rich history, remember those who have served our nation, and think about those who are still serving our Armed Forces in Afghanistan, Iraq and elsewhere.

“The United States is great and free because of the men and women who have served in our military,” Tanner said. “As we celebrate our country’s freedom and the liberties we enjoy as Americans, it is important we remember these men and women and their families, those who are serving now and those who have served before them.”

U.S. veterans deserve the full support of Congress and the American people, said Tanner, noting that the House of Representatives recently passed appropriations legislation to honor military veterans.

“We have committed to provide our military veterans with the care and benefits they earned when they put on our nation’s uniform,” Tanner said. “The House has voted to improve veterans care facilities and increase the number of caseworkers to help Tennesseans who have had difficulty getting answers about their benefits. Our veterans deserve the best service and care available as an expression of our appreciation for the noble service they provided us.”

Tanner represents Tennessee’s 8th Congressional district in west and middle Tennessee, which includes 20 National Guard armories, the Milan Army Arsenal, Naval Activity Mid-South in Millington and a portion of Fort Campbell Army Base, home of the 101st Airborne Division. Tanner served in the U.S. Navy, then the Tennessee Army National Guard, from which he retired at the rank of Colonel. He serves on the House Ways and Means Committee, on the House Committee on Foreign Affairs and as chairman of the U.S. delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.
