Appropriations Requests

Clean Water Grant, Springville Utility District

Recipient: Springville Utility District, Henry County, Tennessee

Amount requested: $900,000

Project description:

A new utility district to supply the residences in Old Springville and surrounding communities with water is desperately needed. Approximately 1,300 residences are found within the planning area, many of whom have wells that provide water of inferior quality and some with unhealthy contaminates. Health issues associated with the drinking water are well documented in this region and must be addressed. The installation of a public water system has been a goal of county officials and local residents for many years. In rural areas, population density is often insufficient to render the extension economical for the rural customers who may share its cost. The protection of public health is at the heart of this initiative, and is a primary function of government.
