Veterans' Home, Montgomery County Recipient: Montgomery County, Tennessee Amount requested: $0 (requesting report language only) Project description: There is a significant need for nursing home facilities in Montgomery County, one of the counties housing Fort Campbell Army Base, home to the 101st Airborne Division. The counties surrounding Fort Campbell contain nearly 30,000 veterans who have chosen to settle in the area; in fact, Montgomery County alone has the state's largest population of veterans. The county and state government have both stepped forward to make all necessary accommodations for a veterans' nursing home and has applied for a construction grant from the Department of Veterans Affairs for $12 million to build a 140-bed facility. We have asked the committee to include report language asking the Department of Veterans Affairs to assess the need for, and feasibility of, supporting a veterans' nursing home in Montgomery County. The language is as follows: "The Department of Veterans Affairs is urged to examine the need for, and report on the feasibility of, a nursing home to care for veterans in Montgomery County, Tennessee." |
