Legislation Introduced by Tsongas to Protect Historic Barrett's Farm in Concord Passed by House of Representatives
Monday September 22, 2008Today, the House of Representatives acted to preserve a piece of American history when it approved bipartisan legislation introduced by Congresswoman Niki Tsongas which permanently protects Colonel James Barrett's farm in Concord, Massachusetts. Tsongas' bill would bring Barrett's farm within the boundaries of Minute Man National Park, thereby preserving this historic site which played a prominent role in the first battle of the Revolutionary War. The bill was cosponsored by the entire Massachusetts Congressional delegation.

Merrimack Valley Early Reading Programs Receive More Than $6.7 Million in Federal Funds
Tuesday September 02, 2008Congresswoman Niki Tsongas and representatives from the Department of Education today presented more than $6.7 million in federal funds to Lowell's Community Teamwork Incorporated (CTI) and the Greater Lawrence Community Action Council (GLCAC). The funding will be used by each nonprofit organization to improve the school readiness of Merrimack Valley children, particularly those from low-income families, through the promotion of early childhood reading.

Tsongas Introduces Two Bills to Improve the Quality of Veterans Health Care
Thursday July 31, 2008Congresswoman Niki Tsongas (MA-05) today introduced two bipartisan pieces of legislation to address and improve the quality and continuum of mental health care available to veterans. Recognizing the sharp increase in post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other mental health wounds among veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan, Tsongas' legislation would help to improve diagnosis of these conditions by training counselors on college campuses to recognize their initial signs.
