Upton Welcomes President’s Call to Improve the Environment while Protecting U.S. Jobs
WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman Fred Upton (R-MI), ranking Republican of the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Energy and Air Quality, made the following statement in response to President Bush’s remarks from the Rose Garden this afternoon to halt the growth of greenhouse gas emissions by 2025:
“I welcome the President’s thoughtful and pragmatic approach to addressing climate change. We have a unique opportunity to fortify our economy and foster a new era of energy independence and reduced greenhouse gases. We owe it to American workers to pursue responsible policies that cut emissions without cutting jobs.
“As the President highlighted, it is imperative that we restore some semblance of sanity to a runaway legal system that has allowed judges and bureaucrats to dictate policies that fail to improve the environment and threaten to derail the U.S. economy, putting millions of jobs in the crosshairs.
“We are a nation that consists of the world’s best and brightest minds, and with a greater emphasis on new technologies, a renewed commitment to clean nuclear power, and American ingenuity, we can set a proper example for the globe to follow and we will all be better for it.”
