Upton Comments on Death of Rep. Carl D. Pursell
Pursell, elected in 1976, represented Michigan's second congressional district until his retirement in January, 1993
WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman Fred Upton (R-St. Joseph) made the following statement on the passing of former Rep. Carl D. Pursell. Pursell, of Plymouth, Michigan, served eight terms in the U.S. House of Representatives from January 1977 to January 1993.
"I was very sad to learn the news about my good friend, Carl Pursell, but I know that he is now in a better place. Carl was a mentor to me when I first arrived in Congress, and I greatly appreciated his trusted insight and counsel.
"Carl was an Eastern Michigan University man through and through, Midwest values to the core, always giving back to the alma mater that shaped the man that he was. Carl leaves an enduring legacy in our community – and his imprint upon the National Institute of Nursing will be a lasting one.
"Amey and I extend our thoughts and prayers to Carl's beloved wife Peggy, and children Phil, Mark and Kathy. Carl Pursell was indeed an honorable gentleman from the great State of Michigan, and we will all miss him."
