Upton Comments on Death of Rep. Bob Davis
Davis represented the Upper Peninsula and Northern Michigan in Congress from 1979 - 1993
Washington, DC – Congressman Fred Upton (R-St. Joseph) made the following statement on the passing of his friend and former colleague, Rep. Bob Davis. Davis was born in Marquette but attended school and worked in St. Ignace, Michigan and served seven terms in the U.S. House of Representatives from January 1979 to January 1993. Upton served alongside his friend for three terms in the U.S. House.
“While I personally lost a friend and mentor, Michigan lost a tireless advocate today in Bob Davis. A member of the State House, State Senate and United States Congress, Bob dedicated nearly three decades to the folks of Michigan he loved so much. He was dogged in his efforts on behalf of the Upper Peninsula, ensuring everyone across Northern Michigan had a voice in Lansing and Washington.
“Bob and I shared some wonderful memories – he was always of good humor, a fun loving gentleman whose presence in the Halls of Congress melted away any sense of partisanship.
“A champion of the Great Lakes and a conservationist, Bob’s crowning achievement was the creation of the Keweenaw National Historical Park. He leaves an enduring legacy as Michigan’s greatest natural treasures Bob fought so hard to protect are now preserved for future generations to enjoy and appreciate.
“Amey and I extend our thoughts and prayers to Bob’s beloved wife Brook, and five children Rob, Lisa, George, Alexandra and Hannah.”
