- July 25, 2008 -- Congresswoman Velazquez’s Legal Counseling Provisions Included in Comprehensive Housing Bill: The U.S. House of Representatives earlier this week approved H.R. 3221, “The American Housing Rescue and Foreclosure Prevention Act of 2008” by a vote of 272-152. As New York City’s senior Member on the House Subcommittee on Housing and Community Opportunity, Congresswoman Nydia M. Velázquez (D-NY) worked to ensure that New York City neighborhoods are not weakened by foreclosures and City residents have access to important counseling services.
- July 18, 2008 -- Rep. Velázquez Seeks Answers for Parents Concerned About Impact of New Federal Probation Office Location in Brooklyn Heights: Congresswoman Nydia M. Velázquez (D-N.Y.) today sent a letter to the top federal judge in Brooklyn requesting additional consideration for the new location and layout of the Federal Probation office. The letter was co-signed by members of the Brooklyn Congressional delegation, Senators Charles Schumer and Hillary Rodham Clinton, and Representatives Edolphus Towns and Yvette D. Clarke
- July 1, 2008 -- Congresswoman Velázquez Announces Federal Resources to Benefit Red Hook Green Roof Design Initiative: In a ceremony today Congresswoman Nydia M. Velázquez (D-N.Y.) announced support from the U.S. Department of Energy for the implementation of a green roof initiative in Brooklyn. The Southwest Brooklyn Industrial Development Corporation (SBIDC) will use the resources to create a 12,500 sq. ft. garden atop a Red Hook factory. This effort will demonstrate that green roof design has cost-effective, environmental benefits and should be implemented in future project.

Congresswoman Velázquez Earns Number One Ranking as Most Progressive Member of New York City Delegation
Congresswoman Velázquez has been recognized by the National Journal for her progressive voice in fighting the Bush Administration. She earned the magazine's ranking as the most progressive member of New York City's Congressional delegation. The National Journal ranks members of Congress every year based on key votes on economic, social and foreign policy issues. Crucial issues addressed last year included raising the minimum wage and providing a timetable for the withdrawal of troops in Iraq. Congresswoman Velázquez will continue her work in the U.S. House as an advocate for the causes most important to New Yorkers.
