Earthquake in HaitiOn January 12, 2010, a large earthquake caused significant loss of life and severe destruction to Haiti. The thoughts and prayers of Congresswoman Velázquez are with the people of Haiti and New Yorkers with family and friends impacted by this tragedy.

The U.S. State Department has set up a hotline at 1-888-407-4747 to assist Americans seeking information about family members in Haiti. The U.S. embassy in Port-au-Prince is working to contact American citizens in the country. For more information, click here to visit the embassy’s emergency webpage.

Individuals wishing to donate or provide assistance in Haiti should visit the Center for International Disaster Information website. New Yorkers may also call 311 to donate funds to assist victims of the earthquake through the Mayor's Fund to Advance New York City.

H1N1 CDC Link

With the H1N1 influenza virus spreading across the United States, Rep. Velázquez urges New Yorkers to educate themselves about the flu and the steps they should take to minimize their risk of infection.
