Cookies
Our new e-mail system uses a cookie-enabled form. A cookie is an Internet term that means a small amount of named data stored by the web browser and associated with a particular web page or web site. Many Internet companies like Amazon.com and Travelocity.com use this method to make it easier for their customers to do business with them.
With cookies, once you fill in your address and other information, your web browser will remember it when you return. So, if you write to me again, simply click on Contact Your Congressman and begin typing. This will only work if you compose your message from the same computer every time. If you send me an e-mail from an alternate computer, the cookie has no way of remembering who you are, and you will need to enter your information again.
This page collects and stores the cookie through JavaScript, which is browser-dependent. Users who have disabled JavaScript on their browsers, who have installed cookie crushers software or who are using an old browser that cannot read this script, will have to fill in their information each time they write to me.
To make it even easier for you to keep in touch with me, once the cookie has been saved on your computer, you can bookmark any page in my system.
Using Public Computers
We recommend that you use Write Your Rep if you’re e-mailing me from a public computer because the information you enter is completely secure even on public computers. There is a possibility that the next computer user could see your name and address information if you use my new system. For example, if John e-mails me from the computer at the library using my system, Nancy (the next computer user) will be able to see where John lives when she clicks on Contact the Congressman from that same computer.
Privacy Policy
Your privacy is very important to me. Under federal law, my office is prohibited from giving out your information. It may only be used for official Congressional purposes. Your personal information will only be used by me to communicate with you. It will never be given out or sold to anyone. It will not be used for political purposes. If you have any questions, please call my office closest to you (Chattanooga (423) 756-2342 or Oak Ridge at (865) 576-1976).
Unfortunately, due to security concerns, this system cannot accept attachments. Instead, please feel free to cut and paste extra text into the body of your message.
