Patriots of 844th Stood in Harm's Way Defending Freedom
 June 3 - “It is an honor to be in the presence of truly patriotic Americans who volunteered to place themselves between the threat and our civilian population so we and others around the world can live outside tyranny and enjoy the fruits of liberty.” Members of Bravo Company 844th Engineering Battalion in Chattanooga were recognized for their exceptional service in the War on Terror. Brigadier General Charles Luckey, Deputy Commander of the 81st Regional Readiness Command thanked Zach for his continued support of all the men and women who have and continue to volunteer to offer themselves in service to our great Nation.
Since Sept. 11, the paradigm has shifted and the role of the Reserves and National Guard has changed significantly. The members of Bravo Company 844th Engineering Battalion are among the thousands of Warrior Citizens who volunteered to leave their families and jobs behind to serve an entire year overseas. Mobilized in October ’04, Bravo Company deployed Dec.17, 2004, to Buehring, Kuwait where they provided exceptional support services to the Northern Kuwait camps that housed and fed frontline soldiers as they arrived in their staging areas to prepare for operations Northern Iraq.
Brigadier General Luckey acknowledged these ceremonies are a great way for the public to pay tribute to these modern day heroes. Zach joined Brigadier General Luckey as he presented each soldier with a United States Flag in recognition of their service. Among them was Sgt. Dustin Maynard who was joined by his wife Brittany and their new son Bryson.
