Summit highlights Alternative Energy and Transportation

photoMore than 500 local leaders from 5 southeastern states convened for the 2006 Tennessee Valley Corridor Summit held in downtown Chattanooga, May 31st and June 1st. This year’s theme was Advancing America’s Competitiveness.

Under the leadership of the Corridor's eight Congressmen and a Corridor-wide board of leading business, government, education and economic development leaders, these regular Summits have become the region's best vehicle to convene, inform and mobilize top leaders on issues of importance to advancing federal missions and to leveraging those federal missions and the Corridor's research institutions for new regional photojob creation. "One of the most important things we can do as a Corridor is to closely link our research institutions and laboratories with our universities and to encourage collaboration as they work to formulate plans for technological advancement in our region," Congressman Wamp told participants.

Chattanooga is well known as a hub for innovative alternate energy and transportation options. This Summit was timely because of the high interest in leveraging the wide variety of strengths from throughout the Corridor to help Advance America's Competitiveness, especially focusing on alternate energy sources. photo
