EMANCIPATION HALL
November 13, 2007
“Emancipation brings us all together at a time in this country where we need things to bring us together. Let us send the message to all who come to this temple of freedom that emancipation lives on and was such an important moment in the learning process of this experiment in freedom and democracy known as the American republic,” said Congressman Zach Wamp. He spoke about the bill he sponsored with Congressman Jesse Jackson, Jr. to provide that the great hall of the Capitol Visitor Center shall be known as Emancipation Hall.

PETRAEUS REPORT RESPONSE
September 10, 2007
Following the Congressional testimony of General David Petraeus and Ambassador Ryan Crocker on Iraq, Congressman Zach Wamp spoke about the Petraeus report on the House floor. “The military is performing in an extraordinary way and the tribal governments are now siding with us. That is progress by any definition,” said Zach. “We need to stand together as a nation and stand together behind our men and women in uniform until we can leave in victory and drive back the terrorist threat at this point we are fighting in Iraq.”

WAMP SUPPORTS AMERICA COMPETES ACT
August 2, 2007
Congressman Zach Wamp took to the floor of the House of Representatives to speak in support of the conference report America COMPETES Act. "If we want to lead the world in energy technologies, we had better invest now," Zach said. "I am proud of what we are doing in our national laboratories, and we need to stoke that fire and allow this country to be all that it can be." The America COMPETES Act conference report passed both the House and Senate and was sent to the White House to be signed into law.

CHILDHOOD OBESITY MAJOR HEALTH CRISIS
July 18, 2007
Due to a significant decline in physical activity of our nation’s youth, a growing number of children are experiencing illnesses and other health problems, such as Type II diabetes, hypertension and respiratory problems. “It is critical that we focus our efforts on funding for physical activity at this time to fight this epidemic of childhood obesity and improve the health of our children,” said Congressman Wamp during his floor speech with Congressman Ron Kind of Wisconsin in support of the National Youth Sports Program.

SUPPORTING OUR MILITARY
June 18, 2007
Congressman Wamp spoke on the House floor in support of our Armed Forces. “The people we rise tonight to honor are the men and women in uniform. They understand from time to time it is necessary for people to put themselves between a threat and our civilian population, and they know that freedom, every time it has been extended from one generation to the next, it has been by those people who have been willing to put themselves and their lives, everything they have, their whole measure, between the threat and our civilian population.”

HOUSE SHOULD NOT OVERRIDE VETO
May 2, 2007
As the House prepared to vote whether to override the president’s veto of the emergency war supplemental spending bill that included a timeline for U.S. troops to withdraw from Iraq, Congressman Wamp shared his reasons why the House should not override the veto. “You shouldn’t have this kind of micromanagement, tying the hands of the generals, telegraphic retreat and then adding a bunch of extraneous matters to this legislation that should go through the regular order and the regular appropriations process. It was a bad bill,” said Wamp.

WAMP FLOOR SPEECH AGAINST IRAQ RESOLUTION
February 14, 2007
The non-binding resolution against the plan to increase troop strength and security in Iraq met much opposition and inspired fierce debate. Many, including Congressman Wamp, believe the stakes are too high and consequences of retreat are too great. “We must do better, but this problem will not go away if we leave Iraq,” Wamp said to the Congress. “This is a generational challenge. Let’s pull together in defense of liberty. Let's unite for the fight of our lives.”

WE MUST COME TOGETHER ON IRAQ
January 9, 2007
America has difficult decisions to make where the stakes are high and the consequences are great. The U.S. effort in Iraq is a critical front in the War on Terror and there is a clear goal in mind: An Iraq run by, secured by, and governed by Iraqis. “We cannot retreat into a 1990’s style complacency which will only invite more 9/11’s,” Wamp said. It is America’s mission to defeat the Jihadists before they can do us harm.
