WATSON ANNOUNCES FORMATION OF CONGRESSIONAL ENTERTAINMENT CAUCUS

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Diane E. Watson (D-CA-33rd) today announced the formation of the Congressional Entertainment Caucus for the 108th session of Congress. The Entertainment Caucus will serve as a bipartisan forum for Members of Congress who have an interest in issues affecting the entertainment industry.

Congresswoman Watson made the following statement:

"The entertainment sector is our nation’s number one export industry. It is directly responsible for hundreds of thousands of jobs and over $500 billion in annual revenues. Congress should be attuned to the needs of this community, which is inextricably connected to our economy and American values and traditions.

"With the rapid expansion of global entertainment markets, and advancements in communication technologies, the industry is confronted with a set of issues that increasingly demand the attention of Congress. Now, more than ever, Congress needs to understand the challenges of copyright protection, runaway production, and the development of new digital mediums, among other pressing issues.

"I look forward to working with caucus members and industry leaders in the exchange of ideas and the formulation of innovative approaches to address the concerns of the entertainment community."

Congresswoman Watson represents the 33rd Congressional District of California, which includes many entertainment companies such as Sony Studios, Capitol Records, American Film Institute, Raleigh Film and Television Studios, and parts of Paramount Studios.

Watson is joined in the formation of the Congressional Entertainment Caucus by 27 other Congressional Representatives from both parties, including many from the Los Angeles area.
