WATSON HONORS DOSAN AHN CHANG HO WITH KOREATOWN POST OFFICE

A bill sponsored by Congresswoman Diane E. Watson (CA-33rd) to name a post office in Los Angeles after the renowned Korean activist, Dosan Ahn Chang Ho, was signed into law Friday, June 25, 2004.

Dosan Ahn Chang Ho arrived in the United States in 1902 and is acknowledged as the spiritual father of the Republic of Korea. During his stay in the United States, Dosan Ahn Chang Ho devoted his efforts to improving the lives of Koreans who had emigrated to California.

“I am proud to be the sponsor of a bill that I believe names the first federal building in the U.S. in honor of a Korean,” said Congresswoman Watson. “Dosan Ahn Chang Ho embodies the best of what this nation stands for, and it is therefore only fitting that he be honored with his name on a post office in the heart of the Korean community in Los Angeles.”

The new Dosan Ahn Chang Ho federal post office is located at 3751 West 6th Street, in Los Angeles. A ceremony to honor the Dosan Ahn Chang Ho federal post office will be held this Fall.
