Congresswoman Diane E. Watson (D-Los Angeles) will sponsor a Town Hall Meeting to inform senior citizens, their family members and caretakers about prescription drug discount cards available for seniors under the Medicare Prescription Drug Improvement and Modernization Act of 2003. The event will be held Wednesday, August 4, 2004, 1:00 P.M. - 4:00 P.M. at Bethel A.M.E. Church, A.A. Morgan Fellowship Hall, located at 7900 South Western Avenue, Los Angeles.
“My office has been inundated with calls from constituents who want help in understanding which, if any, discount card is beneficial to them,” said Rep. Watson. “Most senior citizens expressed their dismay and confusion about choosing from too many options, which is the primary reason I am sponsoring the event.”
A panel of experts will be present to discuss a myriad of questions about the discount card program including: Why is Medicare providing Discount Cards? Where can you purchase the cards? How much do they cost? Do I really need a discount card, if I have a Medicare Card? How can I choose the best one for my situation?
Joining Rep. Watson will be Jeff Flick, Regional Administrator, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), Region 1X; Jim Yocum, Executive Vice President, DestinationRX, Medicare’s Website for Discount Card Comparisons; Attorney David Lipschutz, Center for Health Care Rights and other panelists.
Please call Lois Hill Hale, Press Secretary at 323-965-1422 or Charles Stewart, event coordinator, for additional information.
